Seriously, Nigeria Should be Divided in 2012

Adeola Aderounmu

A Christmas morning mass in a Catholic Church close to Abuja was turn into a mourning ceremony. Bomb blast rocked the church premises and the death toll may be enormous.

A car bomb was detonated in the parking area.

Nigerians need to tell themselves the truth.

There will be no true peace in that country until all the separate nations are allowed to go their separate ways.
There should be a referendum in 2012 where each region should come forward to demand for their own territory and share of resources.

Nigeria should be divided into different countries. By due dialogue and probable long periods of reasoning and negotiations it should be possible to separate the different nations, with minimal conflicts.

It is necessary because the bombings and suicide bombings that are taking place across Nigeria are taking lives anyway.

So why not do the right thing. Let the terrorists keep part of their north.

Let others keep their regions.

If Boko Haram from the Republic of Maiduguri decides to bomb Oduduwa Republic then we know we have an invitation to war and that will be so clear. Fighting a war to defend ones territory or homeland is not illegal. At that time, we know what to do.

But now that Abuja is being bombed, what can we do. Abuja belongs to everyone especially the looting politicians and it is available for bombing.

But when the regions or countries are well defined, it becomes easy to defend a given territory. Who will fight for Abuja, a no man’s land?

The people killed or affected by this silly Christmas day bombing are probably mostly southerners who could have fared better in their homelands in the South, West and East. There are Christians in the North. A referendum or sovereign national conference will give them a say in where they want to belong to and how they want to be governed.

In case of an attack of this nature, they will be able to defend themselves appropriately. A firm retaliation will be appropriate because no person or region has a monopoly of violence (RIP Ojukwu).

It is imperative that the country called Nigeria be divided because that is a first step in dealing with this war/violence in the future. It is also a solution to resource control and an end to the deceit of colonial combination of Northern and Southern Regions.

I cannot fight for Abuja. It is not my business.
But if these bombs start to blow up in Western Nigeria, it is not impossible that I will be joining the Oduduwa warriors. We will congregate from all over the world. We will take up the war from where our ancestors left them. We will defend Yorubaland with the last drop of our blood.
Western Nigeria-The Yoruba Nations- will not fall again.

  1. DIVIDING NIGERIA IS NOT THE SOLUTION BUT RATHER THE POLITICIANS AGREEING TO KEEP THE NATION ONE , SEVERAL REPORTS WERE PUBLISHED CONCERNING THE ATTACK OF SUNDAY BUT THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY PAID LIP SERVICE TO IT UNTILL THE HARVOC WAS DONE BEFORE EVERY ONE BEGAN TO RUN FROM PLACE TO PLACE. WE CANNOT RUN FROM OUR FATHER’S LAND RATHER WE OUGTH TO DEFEND THE INTEGRITY OF THE NATION
EVEN IF IT TAKES OUR LIVES HEAVEN WILL REWARD US

  2. A day ment for happiness, celebration, peace and love has suddenly turned to a day full of sorrow.NIGERIA problem is not as a result of insecurity but as a result of the Govt not understanding the grassroot of the country problem.DO U THINK DIVIDING THIS COUNTRY WE RESOLVE THE COUNTRY’S CHRISES?

  3. Adeola! YOU ARE COMPLETELY ON THE RIGHT TRACK ON THIS MATTER. ANY ONE UNDER FREEDOM OF SPEACH SUGGESTING OTHERWISE HAS EITHER HIS OWN SELFISH AGENDA OR IS SIMPLY NAIV PERIOD!

  4. We need to speak up as a people. To declare freedom from the falsehood that was forced on us by Britain. The South will survive, the North can deal with their terrorists. Nigeria needs to be partitioned into provinces much like the Canadian model, where everyone is responsible for their own resources and their own people.
After all it is all about resource allocation, right? Is there any sane reason why the Fed got sits on 52% of the national budget? The vampires in got need to wake up and do the right thing for our future…
Declare a national constitutional referendum!!!! Let the people choose their own path to self actualisation

  5. Let there be peace and oneness in everything , we are one and should remain one, but if the Northerner want to go let them go and we can be two nations, and if the Oduduwa want to separate, with us, there is no problem I love the Oduduwas as I am married to them and love them

  6. If Lord Lugard who amalgamated us in 1914 actually saw the problem beyond the ease of his immediate governance, he would not have made the mistake. Uniting regions with complete geographical, economical, cultural, political, religious, language and glaring physical differences is the greatest failure of the colonial masters. We have tried all sorts of leadership model from then and since after our independence up till this day including civil war, yet it did not work to live together. Nigerians are individually bitter about this latest mass killing of the southerners. Every body wants to go but no body wants to fight, not that Nigerians are afraid of war, but we believe that we have grown to a stage where we can maturely handle our internal problems which was created since 1914 and divide the country amicably so as to live peaceable and better as different countries which we are. We can have better opportunities to be our neighbours keeper and assist one another where necessary as independent nations. The biafrans were agitating for it and it was regarded as a concern for the Igbos alone. Now the Yorubas, even the Hausas themselves are now begging for it and yet the Federal Government wants to prove that they can calm them and the matter will be resolved. It is long overdue for the government to call for a referendum or a national conference where the opinion of every region would be heard on the issue. If the majority still wants to live together which is most unlikely, let it be, if not let the will of the masses be done. The Boko Haram are have killed enough Nigerians and it should not continue, neither will their message be ignored as those of the terrorists. They are now threatening to bomb during the ojukwu burial. Any human life that is lost again through Boko Haram Bombing , the federal government should be responsible.

  7. What is worth doing is worth doing well, i dont know why mr president doesnt want to aprove the sorveregn national conference so that people will air out their feelings. Nigeria is never one and will never be one. Let this contry divide so that we all we go our ways.

  8. I sugest Nigeria should be divided in the sense that our crude is too small to serve the nation. Secondly there are other solid minerals in the northan region that they don’t want to cultivate on, base on that Nigeria should be divided, so that every region will manage their own resources.

  9. a country like nigeria deserves to be devided but you are talkin like the northners are the first terrorist in the nation, you talk like you are tired of hausa, if so, let the federal govt. Drill out nothern oil so that each one can go on his own way. We get the land for farming, mineral resouces, crude oil and telent of busnes. Take note

  10. i belive nigeria should be divided, cos thing is running out hand.the northerns are not the only people living in nigeria, ever body has the right to religion the to worship any where part of cuntry but with the way things are going i niaja has to divided.

  11. I do not think Nigeria should be divided. I think we need to go back to regionalism and let each group govern itself under the singular umbrella. Resource allocation should be reformulated to address the issues around income generation

  12. I am venturing into this debate although i am neither a Nigerian, nor an African for that matter.I am an Indian and because of this I can say that countries should not be divided on communal lines. You know what is happening in Pakistan, that was India before 15th August 1947. Pakistan is burning and burning so fiercely that the heat is being perceived by the West as well. The nation carved out of India to give home to Muslims has grown into hot bed of terrorism. I don’t have to remind you that Osama bin Laden was found and killed in Pakistan. Moreover. Not a day passes when there is not a bomb blast. The terrorists out there are not only targetting Western interests and India but their own brethern too who follow a different sect of Islam.
Dear friends, after the Hindu hating fundamentalists succeeded in dividing the great south asian country, the direction of their hatred turned towards themselves. Now, they are killing one another. That is to say there is no peace in Pakistan although they are a different nation now.The result is that there is a debate among learned Pakistanis whether their forefathers committed a mistake in creating a new home.

  13. Became to Nigeria problemes, let the country get into divide.but only igbos and yoruba should seperate out from Nigeria.while hausers should remain as Nigerians but colonyed by United Nation (UN) because hausas can not rule them selfs because of their terrorism, and again to protect those hausa Christians citezens.and any etinics or Natiion who is terrorism can not be union by the United Nation .

  14. Let every tribe go and rule their people according to their culture and customs. Enough is enough.

  15. As for me, Nigeria is one, d country should divide as soon as possible. The problems continues if nija remain one. Let Hausa/ Fulani form their country; Oduduwa Republic should stand; Biafra has decided to go; Mid Beltian with capital in Kaduna or Jos or Abuja should stand and if Niger Delta, no problem.

  16. My dear if Nigeria is separated as you say how sure are you that there would be peace. Take sudan and somalia both countries are divided but they have no peace yet. So I definitely disagree with you
